Types of Audits: New Entrant Audit: Mandatory for newly registered interstate motor carriers within their first 18 months of operation, focusing on verifying safety management controls. Compliance Review: A general review of a carrier's safety performance and compliance with regulations. Security Audit: Examines safety plans, driver training, and security measures. Hazardous Materials Audit: Focuses on training, policies, and documentation related to hazardous materials transportation.
What's Reviewed: Driver qualification files Driver duty status Vehicle maintenance Accident records Controlled substance and alcohol testing Compliance with federal regulations (e.g., Hours of Service, Inspection, repair and maintenance, etc.)
Consequences of Failing an Audit: Fines Suspension of operations Revocation of USDOT number Immediate revocation of U.S. DOT registration if corrective action is not taken
